Dr. Richard Kiely



Dr. Richard Kiely currently serves as the Director of the Teaching Assistant Program in the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) which promotes innovative pedagogy with students and faculty. He also serves as the Faculty Fellow at Cornell University's Public Service Center. He was the former Faculty Director of the Cornell Urban Scholars Program and the Cornell Urban Mentor Initiative - two university-wide, interdisciplinary service-learning programs. He received his PhD from the Department of Education at Cornell University and in 2005, was recognized nationally as a John Glenn Scholar in Service-Learning for his longitudinal research that led to the development of a transformative model of service-learning. He co-founded a global service-learning health program in Nicaragua at Tompkins Cortland Community College - now in its 14th year! He has also served as the Academic Director of Amizade Global Service Learning and Volunteer Programs. His current research focuses learning theory and instruction, campus-community partnerships and service-learning as an approach to pedagogy, research, organizational llearning and community development.
