Opportunities for volunteering in and around Cornell abound. Whether you'd like to help out in the Community with one of our liturgical ministries, or you'd rather get involved with local (or not-so-local) charities and volunteer efforts, our chaplains can point you in the right direction. Sacristans prepare and set-up the auditorium of Anabel Taylor Hall prior to Mass and clean-up and store liturgical items after Mass. Sacristans are requested to make themselves available for special Masses and holy days, especially Holy Week and Easter. Sacristans serve at most one hour before Mass and a half hour after or vice versa. they must be attentive to detail, reliable and ordinarily available to serve on a weekly basis.
Hospitality Ministers in some parishes are called greeters or ushers. Their responsibilities include welcoming parishioners, handing out hymnals and bulletins, and assisting with the offering. Hospitality Ministers should be friendly, outgoing, and attentive to detail.
Our musicians include cantors, vocalists, and instrumentalists. They provide music for weekend Masses and special liturgies. Rehearsals are one evening a week and 45 minutes before Mass. All musical instruments are welcomed, and sheet music is provided. Musicians should have time to rehearse on a weekly basis. Contact Laura Armstrong @ ljb13 for details.
Lectors make God present to the congregation through the Word which they proclaim. Lectors are scheduled to read every third week when classes are in session and, if available, on holy days and during vacaions. Training is required for all lectors new to our parish.
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion help to distribute the Eucharist during Mass. In order to perform this ministry, you must be fully initiated (baptized, confirmed, Eucharist). Training is required for all EMs new to our parish regardless of previous experience in other parishes.
All religious education classes take place at St. Catherine of Siena Church
in Cayuga Heights. Transportation provided. If you are interested in teaching
children, teens, or being an aide, please see Sister Donna about the logistics.
